AYB & Softball Programs

AYB & Softball offers programs in the spring (end of April until mid-June) and the summer for Ashland residents enrolled in grades 1 through 8. The primary objective of each of the programs is to offer a fun and instructional opportunity for children to learn the fundamentals of softball.

Spring Programs

Grades 1& 2 (AA) – This program offers an introduction to the sport with focus on fundamentals of throwing & hitting. All players hit and play on the field each inning. Score is not kept. Changes for 2008 include smaller rosters.

Grades 3 & 4 (AAA) – This program is an extension of the program for younger children with continued focus on fundamentals of throwing & hitting plus fielding. Players will use an 11 inch “flexi-ball”. Coaches pitch most or all of the game. A change for 2008 is that this division will no longer travel.

Grades 5 & 6 (Majors) – This program is an introduction to competitive softball where players pitch the entire game. Focus is on fundamentals of throwing, hitting, fielding and development of pitching skills. Players will use an 11 inch softball. Ashland teams play other towns in MetroWest as scheduled by the Tri-Valley league.

Grades 7 & 8 (Majors) – This program is the final level of recreational softball offered. Focus is on further development of fundamental skills. Players will use a 12 inch softball. Ashland teams play other towns in MetroWest as scheduled by the Tri-Valley league.

Summer Programs

Programs in the summer open to all Ashland residents. AYBS offers a variety of age appropriate programs. Recreational inter-town opportunities are offered in conjunction with the Twin Valley league. AYBS also offers a sandlot program.

The Sandlot program will offer some instruction but will be focused on allowing players the chance to play in games for recreational purposes.
