AYB & Softball Job Descriptions

Umpire Manager Role

The following tasks describe the responsibilities of the Umpire Coordinator:

  • recruit players & adult volunteers

  • recruit student & adult umpires

  • schedule umpires for all non travel games

  • provide training & mentoring for new umpires

  • escalate any issues to VP as needed

Summer Softball Coordinator Role

The following tasks describe the responsibilities of the Summer Softball Coordinator:

  • recruit players & adult volunteers

  • work with VP & coordinators to schedule evaluations for summer programs

  • explore options for summer programs with the help of the VP

  • participate on committees to review all rules & by-laws

  • review all rules with coaches

  • deliver player packets to coaches

  • deliver uniforms & equipment to coaches

  • schedule player clinics

  • make sure fields are maintained including training coaches how to line fields before games

  • work with VP to re-schedule rained out games

  • deal with issues raised by coaches & parents; escalate to VP as needed

Vice President's Role (per AYBS by laws)

The VP-Softball shall be responsible for execution of all aspects of the major, minor, and summer league softball program for girl players of league ages 7 through 16. He/she shall administer this program in accordance with sanctioning organization rules and the policies established by the Board of Directors. He/she shall propose candidates for Coordinator of each softball league (Majors, Minors, etc.) for appointment by the Board of Directors. The VP-Softball shall not be a softball league Coordinator or the Head Coach (Manager) of a Major or Minor League softball team. He/she shall be responsible for recruiting, training and scheduling umpires for all major and minor league games and for resolving disputes which may arise among managers/coaches and/or umpires within the Softball program.

In addition the following tasks fall directly within the VP's responsibility:

  • recruit players & adult volunteers

  • organize & order equipment

  • prepare concession stand for spring use

  • schedule coaches clinics

  • schedule coach interviews with AYBS board

  • chair committees to review all rules & by-laws

  • provide master schedule for all practices & games

  • coordinate events at night on varsity softball field

  • coordinate end of spring season trophy events

  • handle issues escalated by coordinators

Minor League & Major League Coordinator Roles

The following tasks describe the responsibilities of the Minor League (grades 1-4) and Major League (grades 5-8) Coordinators:

  • recruit players & adult volunteers

  • participate in coach interviews as needed

  • participate on committees to review all rules & by-laws

  • review all rules with coaches

  • deliver player packets to coaches

  • deliver uniforms & equipment to coaches

  • schedule player clinics

  • make sure fields are maintained including training coaches how to line fields before games

  • work with VP to re-schedule rained out games

  • work with VP to schedule end of season trophy events

  • deal with issues raised by coaches & parents; escalated to VP as needed
